Come on now, the one guy who said that Stronach was whoring herself rescinded his comment. So, it didn't happen.
I didn't like Belinda crossing the floor last year, and I don't like it this year. I think that if you want to cross the floor, you must win a by-election under your new party. If Emerson's constituents believe that they'd be better served as a Conservative, they'll vote that way.

Sorry, that comment was from Marc H.
And for that matter, so is this one.

At least the voices of criticism of PM Harper have been loud... didn't like the way BS was labelled ... just plain rude. On the topic, I do not think it was wrong for Harper to hire David. Kind of reassuring to know that the interest is not politics, but hiring the best person for the job.

When Belinda crossed the floor, opposition and the media all covered her decision in a very sexist way. "Recinding" comments does NOT undo the damage they initially inflict -- or the implications behind them in the first place.
Find me a similar comment directed toward David, and I'll stop this rant right away -- but I don't think you'll find one. When Belinda crossed over, she was labeled the "Paris Hilton of politics" and was called an "attractive dipstick" by yet another opposition party member. All of these comments were directed primarily at her, and the fact that she's an attractive woman.
So, while you're looking for these similiar, you can also find me some articles/comments that talk about his looks, his clothes, and his shoe choice.
You won't find them.

Hi, You don't know me (and I don't know you) but I came across this and loved it:). There was an article in Macleans about the new govenor general and her 'sexy legs' back in November. It's amazing how women and men are treated differently in politics and most people don't even recognize it. C'mon, it is supposed to be the 21st century! Political Science Student, Cordella

Alot of people including myself were critical of Belindas move because it was extremely selfish but more than that, hurtful to Peter McKay. She seemed to give no regard to what this would do to him and she showed us all that her personal aspirations are more important than the people in her life.
David left because Vancouver had no representation in the new government and he felt it was important that their voices be heard, even if they did not vote for the party he now represents.
-
That's right, because Peter McKay's feelings are definitely more important to consider than any ideological reasons Belinda may have had -- and shame on her for not bringing to light in the PUBLIC eye the details of her private relationship.
I'm just glad that McKay took the high road and didn't have a simpering interview on CBC -- nor did he use the public sympathy for personal gain.
Oh wait, I think he did.

Just to clarify -- I totally agree that BS was totally sold out unfairly, and DE has not received anywhere near the criticism.
I also agree that as a society that thinks we're so far advanced with equal rights and equal respect, but sometimes we're not as advanced as we think.
Just a thought, but does anybody think that the different reactions might be due in part to the party who the defector left behind? I don't think it's unfair to think that Conservatives are more likely to have an old-school train of thought, and the Liberals are more socially-minded. Does that mean that they're nicer?
Michelle, I don't think that just b/c Vancouver had no representation in the new government is any excuse to cross the floor. We could all see a Conservative minority coming for weeks before the election, and if Vancouverites wanted representation in that government, they would have elected a Conservative.

Peter did the interview because he was asked to and you know Becky, there are times when someone elses feelings are more important than personal gain or 'idealogical reasons' that they may hold.
