Purpose-driven hypocrisy
Just when I think I couldn't dislike Warren any more --

As I said over on my FB page, the fact that this announcement of Warren's is "news" should say something about the ethos of this supposed man of God. You would have thought that the MOMENT he heard about the Ugandan governmental bill that condoned the killing of homosexuals, he would have voiced his outrage. Missed opportunity, Pastor Rick. You just lost some credibility in the eyes of the world who care about human rights -- but hey, at least you're not "political," right?

Y'know, this whole "age of YouTube", where people are seriously being held accountable for their views and forays into the public sphere -- it's a GOOD thing.

EDIT: Via PZ, here's a more complete critique of Warren's statement. A snip:
By my count, about twenty percent of his message is a direct condemnation or call to opposition to the bill. About thirty percent of the message is self-promotion or promotion of his groups. The other half of the message is his greeting to the pastors and a Christmas message. The latter part should have been sent as a separate message an waters down the most important part of his message, but that's quibble on my part.

[...] This is Rick Warren, the purpose driven man. He'll do the right thing when he's been nagged and embarrassed into doing it. The rest of the time, his purpose appears to be nothing more than promoting Rick Warren and his evangelical empire.
Go read the rest.

The Out Campaign: Scarlet Letter of Atheism

the grrrl in question:
I'm an ex-pat American in the midst of the frozen Canadian prairies. I'm married to a daydreamer. I'm officially a thirtysomething.

I'm also a mama to Emma, an ENFP, and am a happily outspoken godless liberal (who loves to discuss religion).
